Matt Masters hosted a week long stint at the Broken City during stampede that ended in a bit of a barnburner this particular friday night. Masters, who now resides in Toronto, opened the evening with his refreshing brand of old country that went down like smooth rye whiskey. Even though he wears a Hank Williams' heart on his sleeve, Masters adds colour to tradition rather than just paying omage to it. For starters, he's got a voice that could melt a bitter drunk into oblivion before the first beer is down. He's a first class country crooner, with a golden throat and the kind of inviting glow that died with Dean Martin. Damn, the guy's one helluva charmer! Backed by a big warm stand-up bass and Pineapple Frank playing slide on the Dobro, Matt Masters' delivery was seamless...easy to slip into.
